#ValuingCapabilities
Good business is far from straightforward. But it’s essential.
Secrid built a profitable business that tries to play the role it should in society: creating jobs, valuing people and the planet, and manufacturing quality products for everyday use.
Outsourcing production to low-wage countries often risks compromising workers’ welfare and environmental standards. To counter this, we’ve collaborated with sheltered workshops—employment centers supporting workers with disabilities—since our founding. This partnership ensures safe working conditions, meaningful employment, and financial stability for individuals who might otherwise struggle to access the job market.

Design as a force for good
During product development, we carefully consider how our designs impact all stakeholders. When creating new Secrid ranges, our designers prioritise how workshop teams will assemble them. Through ongoing dialogue with these teams, we develop tailored tools and workflows to leverage their unique capabilities. Their feedback also enables us to simplify designs by eliminating unnecessary components.
For us, this collaboration is a no-brainer. We work with these individuals because they simply are the best for the job. They’re uniquely skilled, valued employees, who are integral to Secrid’s operations, identity and success.
Valuing Capabilities
In 2024, we launched the #ValuingCapabilities campaign to thank our wallet makers. By shining a spotlight on them, we also aimed to inspire other companies to establish partnerships with sheltered workshops—a win-win that benefits both the organisations involved and society as a whole.
Secrid x BBC StoryWorks
The #ValuingCapabilities campaign has been well received, and it has opened doors for us. We had the opportunity participate in the BBC StoryWorks x B Lab documentary-style online series Common Good. This series highlights companies that are integrating environmental and social performance, transparency, and accountability into their mission.
Our contribution showcases our motto ‘Design as a force for good’. While the full film will be released soon, you can watch the trailer now.
