    Design for Impact

At Secrid, we donate 1% of our revenues to support talented designers who are improving the way products are made.

Look around you. Everything is designed. From the clothes you are wearing, to the phone in your pocket and the building you are in. All these products shape our society and impact our ecosystems.

Since the Industrial Revolution and the relocation of factories to low-wage countries, mass production of low-price and short-lifespan products has become the norm. This development has brought prosperity to some, but also social inequality, depleted raw materials, environmental pollution, declining biodiversity, and a climate crisis.

Industry cannot be stopped but can be changed. We see a leading role for designers within that transition. We believe they can bring positive change with their inventions. The general guideline is simple: every new product must be better than its predecessors.

    We call this Industrial Evolution.

      Our Mission

Our founders share why we donate 1% of our revenues to the Secrid Impact Fund.

As designers, René van Geer and Marianne van Sasse van Ysselt, founded Secrid with the goal of shifting the focus of industries from producing ever more, to ever better products.

As a company, we do our best to design products that positively influence people’s lives in and around our supply chain. But we cannot change the world alone. That is why we inspire and support talented designers who are making a change in their industry.

Back to Nature Foundation x Super Local

In 2023, we started a research project with Luc van Hoeckel to design a product with local materials and people, that can generate funds for Back to Nature Foundation. This non-profit organization was founded by Manon van Olde Barneveld and Sankale Ole Ntutu, to protect and preserve the Masai Mara ecosystem and Maasai culture in Kenya.

INSPIRE A NEW GENERATION OF DESIGNERS

At Secrid, we believe in empowering the next generation of designers. That’s why we often open our doors to (future) designers—offering them a behind-the-scenes look at how we combine design, innovation, and responsible production. Through our holistic design principles, we support initiatives that help young talent grow, connect, and develop ideas that shape a better future. Find more info here.

        Redesigning the Future of Materials

We learn about new materials in various ways. One way being through the Secrid Impact Fund: we supported Celium™ by Polybion, one of the winners of the What Design Can Do challenge in 2024. Celium™ is a vegan and organic material produced by bacteria fed with agro-industrial fruit waste. Together with Polybion we are continuously testing the materials and working to bring this material up to industry standards. Read about it in this article.
